The 12th Cavalry Regiment Association acknowledges the dedication of our soldiers fighting in Iraq.  During the OIF 06-08 deployment of the 1st Cavalry Division to Iraq, the 12th Cavalry Regiment and its attached units lost thirty-eight soldiers. We honor and remember those who made the supreme sacrifice.

 

SPC Brandon Thorsen, Company C, 2/12th Cavalry died of wounds on September 15th 2007 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. He was injured in a friendly fire incident on September 14th and the incident is under investigation.  SPC Thorsen, 22, was from Trenton Florida. He joined the Army in 2005 and was on his first tour in Iraq.

 

CPL Jeremy L. Stacy, Company C, 2/12th Cavalry, died July 5th 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device while attached to Company A, 2/12th Cavalry. SPC Stacey, 23, was from Bismarck, Arkansas. He joined the Army in 2003.

 

PFC Jonathan M. Rossi, Company B, 2/12th Cavalry, died July 1st 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. PFC Rossi, 20, was from Safety Harbor, Florida. He joined the Army in 2005 and was on his first tour of duty in Iraq.

 

PFC Raymond N. Spencer Jr., Company A, 2/12th Cavalry, died June 21st 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by insurgents using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. PFC Spencer, 23, was from Carmichael, California. He joined the Army in 2006 and was on his first tour in Iraq.

 

SPC Darryl W. Linder, Company A, 1/12th Cavalry, died June 19th 2007 in Baqubah, Iraq of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. SPC Linder, 23, was from Hickory, North Carolina and had a 3 year old son. He joined the Marines in 2001 and served four years including a tour of duty in Afghanistan. After a short brief time working for his father he joined the Army and was on his first tour of duty in Iraq.

 

SPC Francis M. Trussel Jr., Company D, 1/12th Cavalry, died May 26th 2007 in Tahrir, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his position. SPC Trussel, 21, was from Lincoln, Illinois and was married with two children. He joined the Army in 2005 and was on his first tour in Iraq.

 

SSG Anselmo Martinez III, Company B, 1/12th Cavalry, died May 18th 2007 of wounds suffered in Tahrir, Iraq when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using an improvised explosive device. SGT Martinez, 26, was from Robstown, Texas and was married with two children. He joined the Army in 2002 and was on his first tour in Iraq.

 

SGT Casey Nash, HHC, 1/12th Cavalry, died May 18th 2007 of wounds suffered in Tahrir, Iraq when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using an improvised explosive device. SPC Nash, 22 was from Essex, Maryland. He joined the Army in 2003 and was on his second tour in Iraq.

 

SPC Joshua Romero, Company B, 1/12th Cavalry, died May 18th 2007 of wounds suffered in Tahrir, Iraq when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using an improvised explosive device. SPC Romero, 19, was from Crowley, Texas and was married with one child. He joined the Army in 2005 and was on his first tour in Iraq.

 

CPL Dan Nguyen, A combat medic with A Company, 1/12th Cavalry died May 8th 2007 in Tahrir, Iraq of small arms wounds. SPC Nguyen, 24, was from Sugar Land, Texas. He joined the Army in 2004 and was on his first tour in Iraq.

 

SGT William W. Bushnell, HHC, 2/12th Cavalry died April 21st 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle was struck by a rocket propelled grenade in Baghdad, Iraq. SGT Bushnell, 24, was from Jasper, Arkansas. He joined the Army in 2002 and was on his first tour in Iraq. He previously served in Afghanistan. SPC Jason Shaffer, HHC Company, 1/12th Cavalry died April 5th 2007 when an improvised explosive device exploded near his vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq. SPC Shaffer, 28, was from Derry, Pennsylvania and he was married. He joined the Army in 2003 and was on his second tour in Iraq.

 

SGT John Allen, a combat medic with Company A, 2/12th Cavalry died March 17th 2007 when an improvised explosive device exploded near their vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq. SGT Allen, 25, was from Palmdale, California and he was married. He joined the Army in 2005 and was on his first tour in Iraq. He previously served in the Navy for four years.

 

SGT Ed Santini, Company A, 2/12th Cavalry died March 17th 2007 when an improvised explosive device exploded near their vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq. He had served five years and served multiple tours in Iraq. SGT Santini, 25, was from Toa Baja, Puerto Rico and was married with one child and another due in July.

 

PFC William Davis, Company A, 2/12th Cavalry died March 17th 2007 when an improvised explosive device exploded near their vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq. PFC  Davis, 26, was from Grand Rapids, Michigan, married with one child and he was to have returned home on leave in April to witness the birth on a son, Kaden Andrew. William served two years and was on his first tour in Iraq.

 

PFC John Landry Jr, Company A, 2/12th Cavalry died March 17th 2007 when an improvised explosive device exploded near their vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq. PFC Landry, 20, was from Lowell, Massachusetts. John served less than two years and was on his first tour in Iraq.

 

SPC Adam Rosema, a mechanic with E Company, 215th Brigade Support Battalion, died March 14th  2007 when an improvised explosive device detonated in Baqubah, Iraq. SPC Rosema, 27, was from Pasadena, California. Adam served less than two years and was on his first tour in Iraq. SPC Barry Mayo, Battery B, 2/82nd Field Artillery, died March 5th 2007 when an improvised explosive device detonated in Baqubah, Iraq. SPC Mayo, 21, was from Myrtle, Mississippi. Barry served almost four years and was on his second tour in Iraq.

 

SGT Blake Harris, HHC Company, 1/12th Cavalry died March 5th 2007 when an improvised explosive device detonated in Baqubah, Iraq. SGT Harris, 22, was from Pueblo, Colorado and was married with one child. His father had served with the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam. SPC Ryan Russell, a Medic with HHC Company, 1/12th Cavalry died March 5th 2007 when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was giving aid to a group of wounded soldiers in Baqubah, Iraq. SPC Russell, 20, was from Elm City, North Carolina. Ryan had served for over two years and was on his first tour in Iraq. SPC Ronnie Madore, E Company, 215th Brigade Support Battalion, died February 14th 2007 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq. SPC Madore, 34, was from San Diego, California and had a four month old son. SPC Madore had served for seven years and was on his third tour in Iraq.

 

SGT Carl Seigart, E Company, 215th Brigade Support Battalion died February 14th 2007 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq. SGT Seigart, 32, was from San Luis Obispo, California and was married with four stepchildren.

 

SGT John Rode, E Company, 215th Brigade Support Battalion died February 14th 2007 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq. SGT Rode, 24, a Canadian citizen, was from Pineville, North Carolina. He had served four years and was on his second tour in Iraq. John received his United States citizenship posthumously.

 

PFC Branden Cummings, Company A, 1/12th Cavalry died February 14th 2007 from wounds when an improvised explosive device exploded near his vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq. PFC Cummings, 20, was from Titusville, Florida. He had served for just over year and was on his first tour in Iraq.

 

SGT Robert Thrasher, D Company, 2/12th Cavalry died February 11th 2007 as a result of small arms fire in Baghdad, Iraq. SGT Thrasher, 23, was from  Folsom, California and was married. He was on his second tour in Iraq.

 

SPC Leeroy Camacho, B Company, 1/12th Cavalry died February 9th 2007 from wounds suffered from an explosion during breeching operations in Baqubah, Iraq. SPC Camacho, 28, was from Kagman, Saipan, married with three children. He had served for less than three years and was on his second tour in Iraq. He was the type of person that would do anything for anyone.

 

SSG Eric Ross, B Company, 1/12th Cavalry died February 9th 2007 from wounds suffered from an explosion during breeching operations in Baqubah, Iraq. SSG Ross, 26, was from Kenduskeag, Maine and was married with two children. He served for four years and this was his second tour. He was a loyal friend and a dedicated husband and father. SSG Alan Shaw, B Company, 1/12th Cavalry died February 9th 2007 from wounds suffered from an explosion during breeching operations in Baqubah, Iraq. SSG Shaw, 31, was from Little Rock, Arkansas, married with three children. He served four years in the Marines before joining the Army and this was his second tour in Iraq. PVT Clarence Spencer, B Company, 1/12th Cavalry died February 4th 2007 as a result of small arms fire. PVT Spencer, 24, was from Fort Worth, Texas and was married with one child. He served four years in the Marines and had three tours in Iraq and was wounded in 2003.

 

SPC Eric R. Sieger, B Company, 1/12th Cavalry died February 1st 2007 of injuries suffered when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle rolled over in Buritz, Iraq. SPC Sieger, 18, was from Layton, Utah.  He had served for less than two years and was on his first tour in Iraq. Eric was good with his hands and always trying to fix things.

 

PFC Nathan Fairlie, B Company, 6/9th Cavalry died January 26th 2007 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq. PFC Fairlie, 21, was from Candor, New York. He joined the Army in 2005 and was on his first tour in Iraq.

 

PFC Ryan Berg, B Company, 1/12th Cavalry died January 9th 2007 as a result of small arms fire in Baqubah, Iraq. PFC Berg, 19, was from Sabine Pass, Texas and was recently married. He had served for less than two years and was on his first tour in Iraq. He was an outgoing young man who could always put a smile on your face. CPL Jonathan Schiller, E Company, 215th Brigade Support Battalion died December 31st 2006, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq. Cpl Schiller, 20, was from Ottumwa Iowa. He had served for less than two years and was on his first tour of duty in Iraq. Jonathan was a fun loving guy who could make anyone laugh. SPC Richard Smith, E Company, 215th Brigade Support Battalion died December 31st 2006, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq. SPC Smith, 20, was from Grand Prairie, Texas and was married and his wife is expecting their first child in three months. He had served for less than two years and was on his first tour of duty in Iraq. Prior to his deployment, SPC Smith was recognized as the 3rd Brigade Cook of the Year, 1st Cavalry Division Cook of the Year, and 3rd Corps Cook of the Year.

 

SPC John Barta, D Company, 1/12th Cavalry died December 23rd 2006 from mortar fire in Buhritz, Iraq.  SPC Barta, 25, was from Corpus Christi, Texas and married but without children. He had served for two years and was on his first tour of duty in Iraq. John was a high school star athlete and an All-Metro player in baseball and an All-South Texas player in both baseball and football. Memorials may be made in John Barta's name to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Corpus Christi Inc., 3402 Fort Worth Street, Corpus Christi, TX 78411.

SSG Daniel Morris, A Company, 1/12th Cavalry died November 25th 2006 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Judiah, Iraq. SSG Morris, 28, was from Clinton, Tennessee. He had served for seven years and this was his second tour in Iraq. Daniel asked his mother to send Bibles that he could hand out during his tour, and planned to go to college to become a minister when he got out of the service. SFC Schuyler Haynes, Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 1/12th Cavalry died November 15th 2006 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baquba, Iraq. SFC Haynes, 40, was from Manhattan, New York. He served 17 years and this was his second tour of duty in Iraq. He was named after an ancestor, Philip John Schuyler, who was a General in the American Revolutionary War. His mother stated, “He was a college graduate, despite what Mr. Kerry thinks”. In 1989, Schuyler enlisted in the Army after graduating from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut with a degree in History. SGT Mitchel Mutz, Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 1/12th Cavalry died November 15th 2006 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baquba, Iraq. SGT Mutz, 23, was from Falls City, Texas. He had served for three years and this was his second tour of duty in Iraq. A fellow soldier commented Mitchel was a quiet man who never complained and he was a good driver in Iraq.
