12th Cavalry Regiment Fallen Troopers Memorial
We honor them by remembering them

The 12th Cavalry Regiment Association acknowledges the dedication of our soldiers fighting in Iraq. During the current 2008-2010 deployment of the 1st Cavalry Division to Iraq, the 12th Cavalry Regiment and its attached units have lost four soldiers. We honor and remember those who made the supreme sacrifice.
SPC Shawn D. Sykes, A Food Service Specialist with Company E, 215th Brigade Support Battalion, died May 7, 2009 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany of injuries suffered on May 5th when a propane tank exploded at Combat Outpost Crazy Horse, Iraq. Sykes, 28, was from Porthmouth, Virginia and a graduate of Churchland High School. He served in the Marine Corps prior to joining the Army in 2001 and was serving his second tour in Iraq.
SPC Jeremiah P. McCleery, HHC, 1/12th Cavalry, died May 2, 2009 of wounds sustained after being shot by enemy forces in Mosul, Iraq. SPC McCleery, 24, was from Portola, California and a 2004 graduate of Portola High. He joined the Army in 2007 and was on his first tour of duty in Iraq. He is survived by his father and two sisters.
SPC Jake R. Velloza, HHC, 1/12th Cavalry, died May 2, 2009 of wounds sustained after being shot by enemy forces in Mosul, Iraq. SPC Velloza, 22, was from Inverness, California. He was a football standout at Tomales High. He joined the Army in 2006 and served in Company C, 1/12th Cavalry during a previous tour in Iraq.
PVT Charles Yi Barnett, Company E, 2/12th Cavalry, died November 30, 2008 as a result of a non-combat related incident in Tallil, Iraq. PVT Barnett, 19, was from Bel Air, Maryland. He was on his first tour of duty in Iraq.
